Magic City, the lo-fi, sugary light, pop band from the great city of Chicago is doing it’s best to set itself apart from the pack of lo-fi, sugary light, pop bands. All jokes aside, you could easily mistake Magic City for another Brooklyn-based band trying to bust it’s way from the walls of a Williamsburg bar. What makes these guys special is the animated nature of the lead singer’s simply innocent vocals and the non-strategic guitar jams that pepper their way into each song. The tracks from their recently released Little Bits EP are lofty and an elemental soundtrack to the autumn drive toward the Sun in the late afternoon. This is kind of band that you see at SXSW or CMJ and hope they become bigger than a short mention on your favorite music blog. Well let’s hope so, because these guys have the potential.

them on Facebook.
So after a long (and much needed) break, we’re back with the Kuestionnaire with Magic City guitarist Colin Croom as he shares an interesting non-musical influence.
_________________________________________________________________________
1. Could you state your name and what you do in the band?
Colin Croom – Lead Guitar + Backup Vocals
2. How would you describe your sound?
Dream-Pop, kinda Lo-Fi sounding Indie rock for the lack of a better term
3. What is your favorite local band?
YAWN (Chicago)
4. Any concerts that blew your mind recently?
A while back I went and saw Funkadelic, if you really want to talk about my mind getting blown.
5. Any non-musical influences you would like to mention?
Our cats, Klaus and Colonel. I wish I could say in a truer tone how much of a thriving force they are in the writing process.
6. If your music was to be the theme of a film/TV show, what would it be?
Fuck…that’s a tough one. I’ll get back to you on it. Am I botching this right now?
7. What musician/artist would you like to collaborate with for a day?
Oh man. Lauren would say Best Coast in a heartbeat. No doubt. I’d like to work with Dirty Projectors at some point. Or Deerhoof, you see that band live and they’re the only band you want to be in for the next two weeks.
8. What is the album you listen to on a cold rainy day?
The Clientele – Suburban Light
9. List four songs you would listen to on a roadtrip?
Os Mutantes – A Minha Menina
The Ethiopians – You Got The Dough
The Beatles – Tomorrow Never Knows
Tame Impala – Make Up Your Mind
10. Where do you see yourselves in 7 years?
Somewhere productive, hopefully closer to an ocean.
11. What is the last book you read?
The Elephant Vanishes – Haruki Murakami
12. Is image a factor in music or is it a waste of time?
Can’t have one without the other, no matter how hard you try. One can restrain it from defining the other, but if you feel something, generally you show it in one way or another.
13. Any embarrassing moments on stage you would like to share?
Haha, I was smoking a cigarette on stage at our last show and had a difficult time spitting it out while I was playing. But that’s all I can think of, as of yet.
14. Any favorite tour locations?
Anywhere that’s willing to listen.
15. Lastly, what is your present state of mind?
I’m doing just fine
