Since the fall of Failure back in 1997, it’s been difficult to find a band that can live up to they’re haunting yet rocking legacy. Well it seems as though Austin, Texas’ psychedelic-rock group The Boxing Lesson has come pretty close. With their epic grandeur approach to each song and their otherworldly atmospherics that sound like it would go well with projected images of the Universe, The Boxing Lesson seem to have a firm grasp on their musical identity. Their latest effort, Muerta EP, was mastered by Austin Chronicle’s Producer of the Year, Danny Reisch. The album recycles a few tracks from 2008′s Wild Streaks & Windy Days and gives them new life.

Make sure you catch them on their short tour around Texas.

You can purchase the Muerta 7″ here.

This week we have “sweet synthy goodness” player Jaylinn Davidson answer the world famous Kuestionnaire as she shares an interesting state of mind…

_________________________________________________________________________

1. Could you state your name and what you do in the band?
I’m Jaylinn and I make the sweet, sweet synthy goodness for your earholes

2. How would you describe your sound?
A modern take on classic rock with a psychedelic twist.

3. What is your favorite local band?
Spoon

4. Any concerts that blew your mind recently?
I saw Jon Spencer BLUES EXPLOSION last week… It. Was. Awesome. It’s so exciting to see a band that I’ve been seeing for 15 years still assault the crowd with just pure unabashed rock! They slaughtered it and didn’t think twice. No energy lost. It’s as powerful now as it was then.. I took notes 

5. Any non-musical influences you would like to mention?
Traffic, Saturn, the ice cream man.

6. If your music was to be the theme of a film/TV show, what would it be?
A 70s time travel crime fighting love story

7. What musician/artist would you like to collaborate with for a day?
Dangermouse or Brian Eno.

8. What is the album you listen to on a cold rainy day?
Cold and rainy days are made for old jazz records. Big Fun is one of my favorites (Miles Davis). You also can’t go wrong with a little Billie Holiday or Chet Baker.

9. List four songs you would listen to on a roadtrip?
For Reverend Green, Autobahn, the entire Soft Effects EP on repeat, spaghetti western soundtracks

10. Where do you see yourselves in 7 years?
In Austin having just returned from a 2 month European Tour

11. What is the last book you read?
Warriors

12. Is image a factor in music or is it a waste of time?
Depends on if you watch music or listen to it.

13. Any embarrassing moments on stage you would like to share?
If there are, I have blocked them out! It’s just so damn fun up there… It’s as if you are the most self-conscious and at the same time the least self-aware… Those moments are so fleeting that to waste it on an emotion like embarrassment would be just sacrilege.

14. Any favorite tour locations?
Love the west coast… It’s always such a pleasure and so much fun… We have great friends out there so it’s like you get to hang out with your pals and then rock their faces. It’s a win/win situation.

15. Lastly, what is your present state of mind?
Florida.
