When I began Kata Rokkar, I never expected it to bloom into what it has become today. I have been able to travel all over the country to witness some amazing concerts, interview personal heroes, and create a showcase of stand-up comedians and musicians that I am very proud of. It’s been a ride and I am so thankful for all of you that read our articles, check out the bands we write about, and attend our goofy little Snob Theater shows. So after 2 years of blogging about and taking pictures of bands that I love, I have pieced together a show that features some of my favorite musicians and comedians to celebrate our 2 year anniversary. Here’s to another 2 years of amazing music and experiences! Thank you all!

It’s our fifth Snob Theater and boy do we have another fantastic line-up for you. In case you’re not familiar with Snob Theater, Snob Theater is a show that features the best in the Bay Area’s indie rock bands and stand-up comedians. The small 60+ seat Dark Room Theater makes for the most intimate of performances and provides a unique and exciting atmosphere. Snob Theater is an event that showcases the comfort of the performers as they take chances in a stripped-down setting.
Our musical guests this month include Ghost and the City frontman Ash Maynor and Far frontman Jonah Matranga.

First up we have Ash Maynor’s Ghost and the City; a unique, humble and sophisticated group that is a welcome addition to the Snob Theater family. Ash Maynor’s booze soaked, Leonard Cohen-like croon is the trademark of Ghost and the City that speaks a familiar darkness inside everyone. Having played with likes of Or The Whale, American Steel, and Picture Atlantic, Ash Maynor is a seasoned performer worthy of bringing life to Friday’s Snob Theater showcase.

Jonah Matranga is the kind of performer who plays and creates like a man that was meant to do what he does. It flows so naturally and has affected audiences and listeners for years and will do so in the years to come. Despite his lack of fame and fortune, he’s still been able to keep that artistic spirit alive. Whether it’s through his sliding scale online yard sales, his unique personal recordings, playing in front of a live audience at a club or someone’s living room, his recent project where he invited friends, fans, and other artists to be apart of the recording process, or through his own collection of 27 records with Far, , , , and himself; Jonah has achieved his own musical identity and that is something that every music artist (or artist in general) strives to achieve.
