So when Gatsbys American Dream decided to take a break, a plethora of side projects spawned from the wreckage. Two of which in particular have impressed me; Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground and Bobby Darling’s Places and Numbers. Places and Numbers is a night soundtrack with Postal Service-like programming, heavy beats, and lyrics comparable to Gatsby. His latest Waking the Dead EP is following the same Radiohead/Jonah Matranga -pay-what-you-want model through Bandcamp. Which is a perfect way to hype up his upcoming LP entitled Travels. The title comes from the fact that all of Darling’s music was created over a Macbook in Venice, Verona, Bellagio, Cinque Terre, Chianti, and Rome; drawing inspiration from the lush culture and uncertainty of travel.

You can download the Waking the Dead EP here.

You can also catch Places and Numbers with The Dangerous Summer and The Morning Of at the Bottom of the Hill, Monday July 26th.

This week we have Bobby himself as he provides an unsettling answer to question #6.

_________________________________________________________________________

1. Could you state your name and what you do in the band?
My name is Bobby and I do everything in Places and Numbers.

2. How would you describe your sound?
I would describe Places and Numbers as 90′s rock reinterpreted on a MacBook Pro.

3. What is your favorite local band?
My favorite local band is probably Minus The Bear.

4. Any concerts that blew your mind recently?
I saw Circa Survive perform as Nirvana a couple months back. It was cathartic.

5. Any non-musical influences you would like to mention?
My big influences are traveling and drinking wine.

6. If your music was to be the theme of a film/TV show, what would it be?
Haha my music would probably be the theme to some coming of age teen-vampire show on the CW.

7. What musician/artist would you like to collaborate with for a day?
I would love to collaborate with Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys.

8. What is the album you listen to on a cold rainy day?
Elliott Smith self-titled.

9. List four songs you would listen to on a roadtrip?
This Is It – Ryan Adams
Brianstorm – Arctic Monkeys
Juicebox – The Strokes
The Meantime – Phantom Planet

10. Where do you see yourselves in 7 years?
In 7 years I see myself working in the airline industry, traveling all over the world and still being amazed at how big this planet is.

11. What is the last book you read?
The last book I read is The Next 100 Years by George Friedman.

12. Is image a factor in music or is it a waste of time?
I know image is a factor in the music industry, but I couldn’t care less. I have a general distaste for fashion and I don’t communicate important ideas with the clothes that I wear.

13. Any embarrassing moments on stage you would like to share?
Every time I get on stage is a little embarrassing.
