This six piece multi-instrumental outfit fuses Gypsy, Greek, Slavic, and Mariachi influences with American punk and folk roots. On April 27th, Linfinity will release Martian’s Bloom, a melodramatic and gloriously energetic record that showcases front man Dylan Von Wagner’s lyrical prowess and the band’s experimental journey. Tracks like Seasaw Love touches on a plangent note of sorrow before the violins caper off into a heady dance–an example of typical country style, but with new melodies. Molly Mar of Rome urges a bit more deep breathing; this time the keyboard soothes atop a swath of melodies from Bosnian influence and traditional folk. The aggressively titled Choo Choo Train To Venice has the aspect of a Talking Heads fucks with 80 punk rock, with enough energy to shove Linfinity in the spotlight.

Linfinity will be opening for the always amazing Murder by Death all this Spring. Dates can be found here.

This week drummer Russ Lemkin took the time off from his busy touring schedule to answer the Kuestionnaire.

1. Could you state your name and what you do in the band?
Hello. my name is Russ Lemkin and I play the drums in Linfinity.

2. How would you describe your sound?
I’d say that our music is pretty Eclectic. We all come from different musical backgrounds and bring them to the table in our songs. There is never a certain sound that we are aiming for. We simply orchestrate music by whatever mood we are in at that time.

3. What is your favorite local band?
My favorite band in NYC has got to be Ladycop.

4. Any concerts that blew your mind recently?
Although I may be biased because I am on tour with them right now, Murder by Death has been blowing my mind for a week straight.

5. Any non-musical influences you would like to mention?
Traveling is always a huge inspiration. Just driving down the interstate and watching the landscape is something that I can never get over.

6. If your music was to be the theme of a film/TV show, what would it be?
‘Down by Law’ by Jim Jarmousch

7. What musician/artist would you like to collaborate with for a day?
I’ve been into the Local Natives album called ‘Gorilla Manor’, so maybe that guy. He writes very interesting vocal melodies.

8. What is the album you listen to on a cold rainy day?
‘Songs From A Room’ by Leonard Cohen.

9. List four songs you would listen to on a roadtrip?
1. ‘Crosseyed and Painless’ by The Talking Heads.
2. ‘There She Goes, My Beautiful World’ by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
3. ‘Harvest’ by Niel Young
4. ‘Beast and Dragon, Adored’ by Spoon.

10. Where do you see yourselves in 7 years?
I hope to see Linfinity in a comfortable position, Headlining profitable tours and putting out records every 12 to 18 months.

11. What is the last book you read?
The last book that I read was ‘After Dark’ by Murakami. It is a few years old, but I just got around to it.

12. Is image a factor in music or is it a waste of time?
Well. you do have to think of presentation and try to present yourself in a professional way, but for the most part, it is a waste of time.

13. Any embarrassing moments on stage you would like to share?
There is an occasional drumstick flying across the stage with a spotlight on me, but for the most part, I have been lucky. Nobody has fallen down or pissed their pants or anything like that.

14. Any favorite tour locations?
I like the Pacific Northwest alot, but Salt Lake City was a very pleasant suprise on this tour.

15. Lastly, what is your present state of mind?
”Get out there and do it! Gotta play to win.”
