If you find your music being produced by Zac Rae (Fiona Apple, Annie Lennox, My Brightest Diamond) and mixed by Darrell Thorp (Radiohead, Beck), you’ll probably find your music strong yet vulnerable without giving too much away. That is the case with Sara Lov, a traveling ray of sunshine with the talent and love for song craft as the artists mentioned above. Sara’s music shows life’s cruelty while letting a little light in that hope is not a idealistic fantasy. All packed into this year’s Seasoned Eyes Were Beaming. You can purchase the album, among other Sara Lov merch, here.

This week the lovely Sara Lov answers the Kuestionnaire and provides plenty of local artists to check out…

1. Could you state your name and what you do?
Sara Lov. Sing & play guitar.

2. How would you describe your sound?
I try not to because, as Elvis Costello once said “describing music in words is like dancing about architecture”. I’d rather people heard it.

3. What is your favorite local band?
There are so many. Sea wolf, Inara George/Bird & The Bee, Patrick Park, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Silversun Pickups, Eleni Mandell, Correatown, Becky Stark…. And I could go on and on and on…

4. Any concerts that blew your mind recently?
The last mind blowing shows were PJ Harvey at the Orpheum & Grizzly Bear at the Disney Concert Hall.

5. Any non-musical influences you would like to mention?
I think film & books influence me as much as music does. Lynch, Tarantino, Coen bros… Lots of old stuff too. For books, I know it’s old but currently reading “A Confederacy of Dunces” and loving it.

6. If your music was to be the theme of a film/TV show, what would it be?
Three’s Company

7. What musician/artist would you like to collaborate with for a day?
Billie Holiday, but she’s dead so I don’t see that happening any time soon.

8. What is the album you listen to on a cold rainy day?
Hauschka

9. List four songs you would listen to on a roadtrip?
How about 4 artists…
Neil Young, Neko Case, Tom Waits, Radiohead.

10. Where do you see yourselves in 7 years?
Living happily on a decent size piece of land with a couple kids, dogs and I man I love.

11. What is the last book you read?
Before this one was “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle.

12. Is image a factor in music or is it a waste of time?
It’s absolutely important. The image/artwork go hand in hand with the music. It’s all part of creating a that magical space of escape.

13. Any embarrassing moments on stage you would like to share?
Sure. On this tour, in Portland. The club had just put new carpet on the stage that day, but didn’t have time to glue it down. When I walked onto the stage, my foot caught on it and I tripped and fell on my face. That was my entrance. I tried to play it off and made a joke but really I hurt my hand and was in pain the whole show. It was embarressing but also very funny cause that’s the type of thing you hope will never happen.

14. Any favorite tour locations?
It all depends on the crowd. On this tour Salt Lake City was amazing, also Minneapolis & Chicago. Touring in Europe is the best though… Particularly Italy.

15. Lastly, what is your present state of mind?
Happy to be going home. Been on the road for 7 weeks now…
