If you’re a sap like me and loved the movie ‘Once’ with Frames lead vocalist Glen Hansard and the lovely Marketa Irglova, as well as the beautifully heartrending soundtrack (as well as the record that came before it), you’re probably aware and excited about their new record and upcoming tour. See what I’ve realized with Swell Season though is that they are attracting the miserable upper middle class crowd that made liking Damien Rice the equivalent to admitting you enjoy Kenny G. Don’t let that scare you off though, the new songs Low Rising and In These Arms is pretty good and I’m hearing good things about the new album, Strict Joy, which comes out October 27th on Anti- Records. You can only sing about being brokenhearted for so long before it gets boring, but there are many forms of loneliness and hopefully this album explores that, among other things.
You can pre-order Strict Joy right .
You can purchase tickets for their show at the Paramount Theatre (Oakland) for the 20th of November here.
