The Low Anthem’s “Oh My God, Charlie Darwin” (Nonesuch Records) could quite possibly be one of the most personal and dreamy albums of this year. The album finds Low Anthem steeped in tradition in their connection to the land and those who live by it, but this record goes deeper and wider, incorporating Americana, blues and soul elements in a bracingly original and carefully recorded package. Ben Knox Miller, Jeff Prystowsky, and Jocie Adams recorded the album in the most remote place they could find near their Providence, Rhode Island home. The album takes the honesty, innocence and purity of secluded life and expands on that.
