Throughout their career, the Beverly, MA instrumental band Caspian has ascended consistently in both popularity and critical acclaim. But still elusive is the successful translation of their powerful and violently beautiful live performances to their recordings, until now. Once again recorded by Ethan Dussault, the album Tertia extends the cinematic drama of 2007′s The Four Trees while surpassing the sinister heaviness of 2005′s lauded You Are The Conductor. Tertia will hopefully be coming out this September in US/UK/Europe. The band are currently looking for a record label to release the album in North America. So…any takers?
Lead Guitarist Philip Jamieson swings by the Kata Rokkar and answers the Kuestionnaire before heading to Great Scott on the 11th of April to play with friends, .
1. Of all the bands/artists in your CD/record collection, which one is your most cherished?
That is… probably the hardest question ever to be asked. Its impossible to answer, really. Sorry!

Telefon Tel Aviv – Immolate Yourself
Irepress – Sol Eye Sea
Fennesz – Black Sea
Antony and The Johnstons – The Crying Light
3. What’s your favorite local band?
Constants, and Junius.
4. What was the last show you attended?
Lovedrug at Harpers Ferry a few weeks ago. Good times!
5. What was the greatest show you’ve ever been to?
This one is easy: Sigur Ros, November 6, 2002, The Avalon, Boston, MA.
6. What show are you looking forward to?
Going to see These Arms Are Snakes tonight at the Middle East in Boston. I’ve been looking forward to this one forever. They are easily one of my favorite bands happening right now.
7. What musician would you like to hang out/work with for a day?
Hmm… maybe Max Richter? That, or Kanye West just to learn exactly what not to be as a human being/”artist”.
8. What four albums you would bring to a deserted island?
1. Stars of the Lid “The Tired Sounds Of”
-This would make everything about the experience that much more beautiful, clearly.
2. Muse “Origin of Symmetry”
-I’d bring this one simply for the fact that it’d pump me up enough to go hunt for food in the woods, climb trees for coconuts, build fires, etc.
3. Jimmy Buffet “Anything by Jimmy Buffet”
-This would encourage me to stab myself repeatedly in the face and hence, die a quick death and not be stranded on a deserted island anymore.
4. Fennesz “Black Sea”
9. Would you call yourself a music geek?
Yes, and proud of it.
10. Any favorite music-related videos/DVDs you own?
I have an enormous, dust-collecting collection of old Led Zeppelin bootleg concerts on VHS tape that hold high sentimental value for me. The Sex Pistols documentary “The Filth and The Fury” is also fanstastic.
11. What’s the last book you read?
I don’t read books so much to be honest.
12. Do you prefer live performances or recording in the studio?
Live performances are why I embraced music and decided to follow it through. Lately though recording has become more and more appealing as the process becomes more engrossing with each Caspian record.
13. Any embarrassing moments on stage you’d like to share?
I once fell off a stage in New York and shredded my pants and busted my knee wide open.
14. Any favorite tour locations?
I enjoy it all so much, anywhere. Spain and Portugal are as good as it gets. The people, venues, hospitality, etc. are bar none the best I’ve ever encountered.
15. Lastly, what have you done today?
Woke up, took a shower, brushed my teeth, prepared a modest breakfast, had a smoke, checked the computer, completed the kuestionnaire, began contemplating what comes next…
Caspian – ASA
Caspian – Further In
Constants – Walking Dead In Texas
