On my very first Caribbean cruise, I distinctly remember listening to Cursive‘s 2006 release, Happy Hollow for the first time on the Lido Deck while getting some late night ice cream. This was kind of a bizarre experience being that I was actually enjoying what I was listening to and purposely taking my time retrieving the midnight treat in order to hear the whole album. It was especially appropriate being that the album is about the whole idea of blind faith and questioning religion and I was watching white trash stuff their faces with pepperoni pizza slices and 24oz cups of all inclusive Pepsi. I doubt I’ll have the exact same experience with their new record, Mama, I’m Swollen, which will be released on March 10th. According to the recent press release, Mama, I’m Swollen is “an album brimming with the universal, questioning the human condition, social morality, and the ‘Peter Pan Syndrome’ of grown men.” Well if the album is at all similar to the just released brilliantly melodic new song, From the Hips, I’m sure this will be another masterpiece from the respected rock band. Being the release is around my birthday and they will be singing about the “Peter Pan Syndrome of grown men,” I may actually have another enlightening moment like my cruise experience. I would bet on it…
