Yusuf Azak

It is possible to become too minimalistic and too lo-fi. Sometimes it’ll sound as if you’re trying too a little hard and can become somewhat irritating. Few artists find that perfect balance of charm and grit and Glasgow singer-songwriter is one of those artists. Yusaf combines beautiful harmonies and a spiritual-like rasp as well as guitar struming not too far off from the late great Nick Drake. Yusaf’s Light Procession EP is a fresh dose of folk yumminess that goes well with a long walk.

“Fabulous Friends” by Gladshot from matthew k on Vimeo.

You may have heard Gladshot, but you probably haven’t heard of Gladshot. Their songs have been peppered into TV programs for the past few months and they recently released their debut Burn Up and Shine with producer John Agnello (The Hold Steady, Oxford Collapse, Sonic Youth). Debbie Andrews (Wurlitzer piano, vocals) and Mike Blaxill (guitar, vocals) bring on their strong and super sweet melodies with a taste of country love. You’ll notice there’s even a hint of coffeehouse jazz if you’re willing to drop your guard and listen for yourself.
