This past summer was pretty slow when it came to good Oscar-worthy films. I mean, The Dark Knight and Wall-E will take a few nominations, but that’s about it. The documentary, Man on Wire and the French action/mystery film Tell No One (Ne le dis à personne ) were quite good. But other than that it’s been kind of slow. Until now.

Burn After Reading
Friday, September 12

Gym employees try to sell the stolen memoirs of a CIA agent in this Coen brothers film. This is a give-in, Coen Brothers and an all star cast. This could be your new favorite movie.

Miracle at St. Anna
Friday, September 26

The story of four African-American soldiers who are trapped in a Tuscan village during WWII. This would have been the resurrection of Wesley Snipes, but due to a slight case of tax evasion, this movie will just be another reason to love Spike Lee.

Choke
Friday, September 26

A sex-addicted med-school dropout keeps his deranged mother in an expensive private medical hospital by working days as a historical reenactor at a theme park. At night, he runs a scam by deliberately choking in upscale restaurants to form parasitic relationships with the wealthy patrons who ‘save’ him. The book was hilariously awesome so I have high expectations for this film.

Religulous
Friday, October 3

Religulous follows Bill Maher as he travels around the globe interviewing people about God and religion. Hilarity ensues.

RocknRolla
Friday, October 31

When a Russian mobster orchestrates a crooked land deal, millions of dollars are up for grabs and all of London’s criminal underworld wants in on the action. Sounds like a Guy Ritchie film, oh wait…it is. Well hopefully this will give Gerald Butler something to do other than disposable romantic comedies.

So thats it for September to October. I’ll do another one in a few weeks for November to December. Anyway, here’s a little bit from one of my favorite comedians. Enjoy!

Patton Oswalt – Dukes of Hazard

great set of trailers. maybe fall wont suck film-wise like other parts of this year. at least, it sucked for people like me who dont live near film forum or other good theatres and have to get by with seeing only major releases on the ‘big’ screen

i’m sure Burn After Reading will be out in major theaters. Maybe Choke…
