After a few listens to the dream-pop act Magic Wands, I found that the band is a welcome addition to this year’s diverse Noise Pop line-up. Connecting over the internet over similar music tastes, members Chris and Dexy have created some pretty original and sexy space-like theme music. The music seems simple, but fresh. There are moments in the EP, Love and Dreams, where the repeated echoing notes remind me of a light Jesus And Mary Chain and some of the riffs harken late 80s new wave, but I have a hard time drawing real parallels to other bands. I consider that a good thing.

You can catch Magic Wands opening for Atlas Sound with Geographer, and Nice Nice at the Great American Music Hall on Friday, February 26th. If you’re already planning on attending, get there early.
