Holy Sons is pretty difficult to pin down. Almost like Nick Cave being born in another solar system and visiting Earth to sing about where he’s from, Holy Sons master mind Emil Amos (drummer of Grails and Om) creates an epic atmosphere that fits comfortably in dark midnight screenings of Bladerunner and murky dive bars that reek of Bukowski-style ambiance. When you listen to his latest album, Survivalist Tales!, the influence of science fiction and Carl Segan mixed with a shrugged off accepted wisdom of the unknown is packed into a dense and chill combination of guitar, samples, and Moogs. It will take a few listens before you understand the immensity of Survivalist Tales! This is because you are asked to go on a journey through something mysterious and heavily descriptive.
