Snob Theater is back and it’s time to witness more of the best in Bay Area based music and stand-up comedy. In case you’re not familiar with Snob Theater, Snob Theater is a show that features the best in the Bay Area’s indie rock bands and stand-up comedians. The small 60+ seat Dark Room Theater makes for the most intimate of performances and provides a unique and exciting atmosphere for both the audience and the performing artists. Snob Theater is an event that showcases the comfort of the performers as they take chances in a stripped-down setting.
Our musical guests this month include Picture Atlantic and Debbie Neigher.
Since emerging on the San Francisco café circuit in 2009, this New Jersey-born artist has been hailed as a truly special talent. With an uninhibited imagination and acute sense of detail both in music and words, Debbie Neigher has gone from practicing on an out of tune piano in the living room of her parents house to hypnotizing growing crowds in San Francisco’s Yoshi’s Jazz Club. Continuing to showcase her amazing ability to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary with her unique and provocative vocal style and prodigious piano skills garnered through years of classical training, Neigher will release her latest album self-titled debut record, produced by John Vanderslice at Tiny Telephone Studio in San Francisco, this Spring.
In today’s short attention-span culture, bands like Picture Atlantic are a dying breed. Over the course of sive years, two full-lengths and recently released 5-song EP, the band has established themselves as one of the Bay Area’a most exciting acts and as a band who refuse to limit themselves to one scene or sound… and it’s paid off. The band has reinvented themselves with this year’s sprawling EP, When Everything is Numbers, with a transcended sound that is unlike anything else they’ve released. In fact, their latest EP that shows the band reconciling all of their seemingly disparate moods into cohesive blend of music that will lull you to sleep with gentle harmonies one minute and shake you to the core via raw, distortion-drenched rock riffage the next.
You can purchase When Everything is Numbers here for only $5.
This month’s stand-up comedians include Sam Davidoff (finalist in Walk the Plank Comedy Competition), Anita Drieseberg (Producer and creator of Left Coast Comedy Showcase), Sammy Obeid (CoExist Comedy Tour), and Nato Green (SF Weekly’s Best Comedian of 2010, Laughter Against the Machine Tour, creator of Iron Comic).
So come out, invite friends, and spread the word. It’s going to be a good night.
