Okay, so being the kind of Björk fan I am, it has been a hard few years. Having to wait as long as I have after 2007′s decent Volta and 2004′s experimental onslaught Medúlla, I was about to question whether I was in love with Björk now or the Björk I remember when I first listened to Homogenic. Was the Björk that I have grown so fond of slipping into less of the influential figure I’ve always seen and more into a relic that is due for retirement? Biophilia, which is to be released on September 26, 2011 is apparently “the first app album,” collaborating with Apple. Paint me skeptical when I first heard this.
Then yesterday she released Crystalline. I heard spots of Vespertine (my favorite) so I was already on board, I heard a bit of Tricky from Post, I even heard the atmospherics of Mark Bell that was starting to make me feel a bit of hope about Biophilia. Then…around minute 4:17, SLAM! I found myself rekindled with something that has been waiting inside me as a barrage of beats and Aphex Twin-like flaming sidekicks smashed into my ears.
I am a fanboy once more. I couldn’t be more excited about Biophilia.
