Jigsaw Seen – Banana Foster: I might be the wrong person to review this, but it was in my inbox this weekend, so here goes. Banana Foster is Jigsaw Seen’s latest album of light psychedelia with a dab of pop influence. And it’s dull as all hell. I will warn you, I am not a fan of bands like The Posies, Teenage Fanclub, Material Issue, Velvet Crush or any other power pop / self proclaimed garage rock band from the late 80s. To me, all the songs sound identical and then flutter into some kind of 60s psychedelic instrumental you’d hear in a head-shop on some suburban main street. It’s painfully clear that Banana Foster sounds like it’s been done before and a million times better. The standout track however has to be the marching and medieval Cave Canem, with its haunting trumpets and story driven harmonies. However, it’s back to boredom-town all the way home.
