Kuestionnaires, Music

The marriage of pop and punk is not new, but rarely is it executed with the charm and wit exhibited by post punk act Kite Party on their latest Wish Mountain EP. With sweet ‘n’ crunchy tunes chug-chug-chugging away, Kite Party writes music that is instantly hummable and as easy to love as a tail-wagging dog.  The EP by Kite Party is spacious, thick, brooding, joyful, explosive, and back and forth, yet somehow seamless at the same time. Wish Mountain EP carries tones and sounds (at times) as stormy and spooky as the album’s theme lends. The 4 tracks significantly yield what the band’s short lifespan has offered striking glimpses of. Overcoming genre pigeon holing and useless defining, Kite Party emerge with gems like Indiana Pete and Firefighters. This is only a taste of whats to come. Keep an eye on these guys.

This week’s Kuestionnaire was answered by the whole band; Tim Jordan on guitars and keyboards and basses, Justin Fox on guitars and basses and keyboards, Pete Knepper on drums and sticks, and Russell Edling on guitars and vocals. I don’t know who answered what, so lets just imagine the band as a giant 4 headed rock beast. Enjoy!

You can purchase Wish Mountain EP here.

1. Of all the bands/artists in your CD/record collection, which one is your most cherished?
I really don’t know. I have a few old Bob Dylan records I want to hold onto.

2. What have you been listening to lately?
Hot Chip and Dreameater.

3. What’s your favorite local band?
That’s another real tough one. Tigers Jaw has it going on.

4. What was the last show you attended?
We just backed our friend These Elk Forever today for a skate park benefit that was a great time.

5. What was the greatest show you’ve ever been to?
This guy here in Tamaqua used to hold punk fests every year called Suckfest. I went to two of them around 1999, and they kind of blended together, but I remember I was like 11 and I saw some really great bands. I saw Whatever It Takes, Zolof The Rock and Roll Destroyer, and some really awesome local bands.

6. What show are you looking forward to?
My friend just started having shows at his house in South Philly. I’m real excited for the next one.

7. What musician would you like to hang out/work with for a day?
Jeff Mangum, or maybe Tom Waits.

8. What four albums you would bring to a deserted island?
White Light/White Heat (Velvet Underground), Kid A (Radiohead), Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers (The National), and maybe some Black Heart Procession, to lighten the mood.

9. Would you call yourself a music geek?
In some ways. I get kind of obsessed with bands, but I’m not constantly trying to stay up with the hype. That’s kind of impossible.

10. Any favorite music-related videos/DVDs you own?
I really like the Against Me! movie, and the Saddle Creek movie was really cool.

11. What’s the last book you read?
Umm.. Slapstick. Kurt Vonnegut

12. Do you prefer live performances or recording in the studio?
They both have pros and cons. I play better in the recording process, but there’s nothing more important to me than the energy and connection at a show. That’s why I’m doing this stuff in the first place.

13. Any embarrassing moments on stage you’d like to share?
Sometimes I stink. BADD.

14. Any favorite tour locations?
Anywhere in a 15 passenger van is wonderful. I liked Richmond.

15. Lastly, what have you done today?
I saved my family from a burning bus.
