For over a year and a half now, Snob Theater has tried it’s best to bring you our favorite Bay Area based indie rock bands and alternative stand-up comedians. Our roster of talent that has graced our stage at the respected Dark Room Theater has grown longer and more impressive as the show continues to evolve. So it is our distinct pleasure to welcome our next group of talent, the charming folk rock trio Rin Tin Tiger and the immensely talented and angelic Sea of Bees. I cannot tell you how lucky we are to have both of these acts come together and display their unique style of music for our dedicated audiences.

This is going to be a special show and I’m happy to have comedians Lydia Popovich, Imran G-i, Joey Devine, and Matt Morales join us for this exciting and extraordinary show.

Once gone by the name of Westwood & Willow (we did a Kuestionnaire with them way back), Rin Tin Tiger have formed into a rising star in the Bay Area’s young folk scene. Rin Tin brings something that most of the coffeehouse folk troupes seem to forget, a sense of fun and joy. Each track from their debut self titled EP is earnest, calming, and a sweet homage to honest singer-songwriters. Drawing obvious influence from Tallest Man on Earth and a bit of Rocky Votolato, the band brings back an innocent communal feeling that is comforting in execution and confident of it’s own identity as a band. That is what’s most impressive, they know what makes them a strong and original band, and we are lucky to have them grace our stage.

If you haven’t already heard last year’s Songs For The Ravens from the one and only Sea of Bees (Julie Ann Bee), you might want to get around to doing that right about now. The album is a kind of 21st-century folk music, imbued with transcendent guitar work, tribal rhythms, and impeccable splashes of timid personality. Without leaning on conventional structure, the songs enchant with fascinating chords and melodies, Jules’ voice and tender lyrics, mesmerizing rhythms, and an intoxicating aural landscape. The amount of attention she’s been getting lately is staggering; NPR’s Robin Hilton’s Top 10 of the Year, a spotlighted artist in this year’s SXSW, and praised by Jason Lytle of Grandaddy and Admiral Radley fame. This is going to be a set you do not want to miss.
