Album Review, Music

Andreya TrianaLost Where I Belong: Produced by Simon Green, also know as the lounge downtempo artist, Bonobo, Lost Where I Belong is an ambitious and smokey journey into live jazz and minimum capacity venues. While Andreya has been known to work with modern day elctro-jazz artists such as Flying Lotus, Mr. Scruff, and Bonobo’s latest record, Black Sands, she now embraces the soul of live instrumentation with soulful grace. Particularly with the title track, Lost Where I Belong is disarmingly sexy and slightly intimidating. It’s too easy to fall into the “fusion jazz” category or “nu-jazz”, both genres hurt my head and remind me of adult contemporary mediocrity. This record did neither of those things for me. From the looks of things, modern soul might be the next big genre to grace the indie music scene. And with artists like Andreya emerging, you won’t find me complaining.
