Well here’s our first Kuestionnaire since we switched everything over. If you aren’t familiar with the Kuestionnaire, it’s basically 15 harmless questions for an artist to answer at their own leisure. Bands like Division Day and singer-songwriters like Sean Hayes have graced the Kuestionnaire in the past and provided some interesting answers. I look forward to see how these artists will respond to our revitalized form…

To kick us off again is Hrishikesh Hirway from The One AM Radio. Hirway has been playing his own brand of gorgeous singer-songwriter electro-rock for three full length records and countless EPs. Lately he’s been collaborating with Anticon’s and helped produce ‘ upcoming EP and full length. He is currently demoing for his new record and was able to take some time away to answer the Kuestionnaire.

1. Of all the bands/artists in your CD/record collection, which one do you own the most albums by?

Fugazi. I’m not a total completist, but I have 8 albums, so they win by a large margin.

2. What have you been listening to lately?

Exploding Hearts, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, and the Savage Love Podcast.

3. What’s your favorite local band?

Living in LA makes this question tough. Hm, does Beck count? I like Lavender Diamond, Eulogies, and Dntel (but honestly, they all seem too big for the spirit of the question, too.)

4. What was the last show you attended?

The Long Lost (Daedelus and his wife, Laura Darlington) at Tangier, a few weeks ago.

5. What was the greatest show you’ve ever been to?

The Books, at the Knitting Factory in LA, on the last day of their tour when “Lost and Safe” came out, sometime in the summer of 2005.

6. What show are you looking forward to?

Camera Obscura. No specific date; I’d just like to see them live.

7. What musician would you like to hang out/work with for a day?

Jim O’Rourke.

8. What four albums you would bring to a deserted island?

Yo La Tengo – “I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One”
Stereolab – “Emperor Tomato Ketchup”
Portishead – “Dummy”
Neutral Milk Hotel – “In The Aeroplane Over The Sea”

9. Would you call yourself a music geek?

I don’t really need the qualifier of “music.”

10. Any favorite music-related videos/DVDs you own?

The Director’s Label DVDs of Michel Gondry and Chris Cunningham. Ok, I don’t own them, but I’ve been borrowing them for like, months.

11. What’s the last book you read?

The last book I *finished* was Adverbs, by Daniel Handler. Since then, I’ve been switching back and forth between 3 or 4 other books this summer and I can’t remember which one was the last one to come with me on the subway.

12. Do you prefer live performances or recording in the studio?

Ack, I’m not sure which I’d choose if I could only choose one. No, scratch that, it would be recording in the studio. Less spirit-breaking bar chatter.

13. Any embarrassing moments on stage you’d like to share?

Not particularly, but, sigh — the winner is definitely the time I tripped over my guitar amp and mostly fell into the drums.

14. Any favorite tour locations?

Definitely: the Cup & Saucer Cafe in Portland, OR (amazing breakfast), Aux Vivres in Montreal (vegan food a little on the pricey side, but worth it), and the Friendly Toast in Portsmouth, NH (best post-show dining, for the anadama bread alone). Wait, did you mean places to play?

15. Lastly, what have you done today?

The same thing we do every day, Pinky—try to take over the world.
